Cut off the branch of the surge protector to prevent accidents
We know that when a surge protector is damaged, there are two states: open circuit and short circuit. If it is open circuit, it will not affect the system. However, if a short circuit fault occurs, the phase line will directly conduct to ground through the surge protector, which may cause the following hazards:
- When a surge protector catches fire, after a short circuit, the power frequency current will continue to flow through the SPD. If the short-circuit current is too large, the surge protector will fail to trip. The continuous current will cause the internal component, the varistor, to heat up rapidly until it catches fire and burns.
- Surge protector failure may also cause the main switch to trip, resulting in a power outage of the system. This situation is very serious in places where power cannot be cut off.
If a dedicated surge backup protector is installed, the above two situations can be completely eliminated. When a short-circuit fault occurs, the backup protector can cut off the short-circuit current of 3A to 100kA, ensuring the safety of the surge protector.
2. It is convenient for the maintenance and replacement of surge protectors
Another function is that when the surge protector is damaged, it can cut off the backup protector. At this time, the surge protector will no longer be electrified and can be maintained and replaced normally.
If there is no backup protector, the main power supply can only be cut off or illegal live construction can be carried out, which will cause great inconvenience.
